The bed was huge - super king size, clean, plenty of linen, and there was a
large full length window for a good view of more neon lights... the room was
clean. The previous reviews of the coffee and water you would think they might
consider not charging for the coffee etc..
The rest of the hotel was "interesting" nothing stands out with the wow
factor.... walking around I noticed the usual features... there was plenty of
floral carpets, gold fixtures and one other thing that spoilt the place...
smokers. I didn't select eating in the hotel, I didn't bother with the bars,
there is a starbucks inside. a burger bar for those needing fried food.. (note -
no fruit or healthy options) there were plenty of people who probably have
enjoyed the hotel as an old welcoming friend...each to their own, this one
wasn't for me.. it was on business for 3 days... so in short, nothing gained
here except to say downtown has had its day. and the Las Vegas authorities need
to look at how this part of this surreal city has been allowed to drift.... make
your selection of either downtown or the strip carefully. next time it will be
the strip as some unbelievable money has been spent on the hotel complexes.

We booked our trip on Priceline from 12/1 to 12/6 staying at the Golden Nugget
staying in Carson Towers. This was our second time staying at the Nugget and I
felt like the room was just as nice as the last visit it was very large and
clean and bed was really comfortable. I was really impressed with the hotel
because it was one of the busiest week-ends in town. We were in Vegas to watch
our daughter and her friends run the Rock n Roll Marathon the full 26 miles and
the National Rodeo Finals was also being held, yes running shoes meet cowboy
boots wear ever you went. We rented our car through Hot Wire and it was from
Advantage so we used valet parking all times of the day and our service was
great for how busy they were. We enjoy staying at the Nugget because is newly
remodelled and we like being on Fremont St. and would rather drive to the Strip
than stay there.
The marathon experience was not so good, not very well organized and they ran
out of a numbers of items for the runners along the run and then after reaching
the finish line the Mandalay Convention center looked like a disaster area the
runners had to walk miles back to their parking areas to get to their cars. When
we had to leave to get back to Mandalay Shopping Mall valet parking we were
nearly trampled to death going through to the Casino.
We had fun eating, drinking and gambling and staying up to late and sleeping in
too long but thats what Vegas is all about.

Dislikes:
Although there is a K cup coffee brewer in the room, if you open the K cup 4
pack, there is a $10 charge.
The bottle of Fiji water in the room costs $7.
$12.99 per day per computer for Internet. Go to the Krispy Kreme coffee shop at
the Fitz for free Internet. There are other coffee shops with free Internet in
the area.
Near the elevators for the Carson Tower is a self-service Internet counter. Per
minute fee for the computer and a per page fee for the printer. Now I know why
the lines are so long at the airport check-in counters.
Room safe is tiny. It is in the closet about 18 inches off the floor. Tablet
will fit, but a larger screen netbook may not lay flat.
No smoking poker room is good, but the smokers block the entrance ways to the
poker room. You can find the poker room entrance by looking for the dense gray
cloud. If you can hold your breath for 4 minutes and you are aggressive enough
to push people aside maybe you can get into the poker room on the first try.

It was CES week and there was a Moose poker tournament (more than 800 players
plus their companions) at the Golden Nugget. Although the check-in area is tiny
by Strip standards, the front desk people did an outstanding job. They were
fast, but gave full and proper attention for questions; spoke clearly and
anticipated the question if a customer looked confused. They kept things moving
without upsetting anyone.
Two beds in the room with 4 drawer dresser, vanity table with lighted mirror and
low chair, small round table, 2 upholstered chairs, 2 folding luggage stands.
All of it fits and nothing gets in the way.
The coupon book had useful 2 for 1 offers and a few free items: buffet,
restaurants, drinks, and match play and poker room chips.
Food portions are large. Often we heard couples order one meal and an extra
plate.
Grotto restaurant - Italian meat panini with cup of soup, $13.99. Bowl of
lobster bisque, $9.99. Bread with oil included at the table.
The site floor plan is well designed. Things are spread out but after a little
walk around, land marks and lines of sight become familiar and navigation
becomes easier even if you do take the long way. Other than the casino, ceilings
are high and there are few floor to ceiling walls; making for a sense of open
space.
Restaurants, shops and walk ways wrap around the pool on 3 sides but are
separated from the pool by glass walls.
Although taxi and small shuttle bus drop off and pick up are ongoing at the main
lobby entrance, there is a spacious, multi-line area on the so called back side
across from one of the parking decks. There is non traffic blocking space back
there for more than one bus and several taxis.
Will we go back? Yes.

We stayed at the GN from 12/3 to 12/5 for a 50th Birthday party. This hotel is
beautiful. We were in the Gold Tower, Club Floor. Had view of the pools.
Bathroom w/TV in mirror, loved that! Very comfy bed. It was a pretty busy
weekend in Vegas w/the Rodeo Finals and Rock and Roll Marathon so it seemed
like...

I was at the hotel for business and this is NOT a hotel for business travelers.
The business center has limited hours and it is annoying to have to pay for the
extras - making coffee in your room, use the gym, have a small refrigerator in
your room for a long stay. The hotel is smoky. the Rush tower...

I stayed here with my sister in May, 2011. Beautiful hotel, right in the center
of downtown. Rooms are very nice, the hotel is the nicest in the downtown area.
Since we've both been to Vegas

On our recent trip to Las Vegas we stayed four nights on the "Strip" and also
wanted to stay in the "downtown" (original) area of Vegas. The Golden Nugget was
a great choice. There are other hotels/casinos in that area that are cheaper,
but I would not actually sleep in them. We had a great time on Fremont Street,
but do stay in the area that is contained under the "Fremont Street Experience"
light show cover. The area outside of that looks shady. The Golden Nugget is
very nice; clean, comfy, great location. |
