Riviera Hotel and Casino Reviews

There are very definite pros and cons with the Riviera.
On the positive side, we had a good sized room and bathroom, so our time in the
room was comfortable, and although everything could do with sprucing up, our
room was clean. Another positive is that the Riviera is relatively inexpensive.
But there are negatives. The public areas are dated, shabby and desperately in
need of updating. Also, the Riviera has a relatively poor location, right at the
top end of the main strip - there are bus services, but there's still a feeling
that you're in one of the poor relations of hotel casinos in Vegas. There are
places to eat in the Riviera, but none look remotely appetising; we did Sunday
brunch there, but the food was poor, and if it hadn't been for the frankly
adorable waitress and her heavy-handed way with the wine, it would have been a
lousy experience.
Overall, I'd say approach with caution; if you want to see Las Vegas on a more
modest budget, the Riviera might well be right for you. But if you want a little
more pizzazz, look elsewhere.

I stayed here for 3 nights in October with my boyfriend and his family (5 adults
in Total). The hotel seemed very quiet, Casino not busy nor restaurants and bars
in there, so not sure if this is usual. Check in took quite a while because of a
que even though we arrived very late in the evening, but was not a problem, i
have been to Vegas before and checking in has always taken a bit of time because
of amount of people, Unfortunately at check in we were told we could not have
our rooms as booked, we had booked a room with an extra bed for 3 adults and a
double room. The check in staff said that in Vegas there is a law saying three
adults can not share a room (honestly have you heard that before!) They refused
to sort this and said the only way we could stay there was to book an extra
room, which we did in the end due to the time it was taking. Luckily when we got
to the room there was a hotel brochure saying that extra beds are available so
the next day we complained to a manager who rectified the situation and refunded
the money paid and that was handled extremely well.
Whilst in Vegas the weather was cold, cloudy and rainy which was a shame and
unlike what you would expect, but we still had a good time, the only thing it
affected was our Grand Canyon trip and the staff member that dealt with tours at
the hotel (he was located in the entrance near the bus and taxi drop off to the
side of hotel) was amazing and was trying everything he could to make sure we
could go to the canyon. He was just fantastic.
The rooms were okay, a bit tired and worn but had all we needed. There are areas
of the hotel that they are definitely improving over time as we saw some rooms
that looked nicer in a different block.
The hotel itself was good, lots of facilities, nice swimming pool, restaurants
were quiet whilst we were there but food and drinks all good and cheap. The free
drinks in casino were a bonus and just a good tip initially, kept them coming
all night. We found the walk to the strip okay but it is a distance if you want
to go all the way but depends if you like a walk.

I must say that this is the worst Hotel experience I've had in the entire US.
I'm extremely disappointed and plan to recommend that this hotel is removed from
the recommended hotels for CES. I'm writing this review since I could not get
any of the staff members to address my issues and it really seems that no one
cares. This is wrong behaviour.
1. Upon arrival to the hotel, I was greeted by the receptionist with comments
about how can it be that I arrived so early (11am) and that I should go
somewhere and return at 4pm. At first I thought she was joking but she wasn't.
After paying $20 extra I was given a room. This is the first time I hear that
even though rooms are available, I cannot get one after a 28 hours flight.
2. In the past 3 days, I have not had usable Internet access in my room (which
as Press, I must have). Apparently, this is a known hotel issue but every time I
complained about it, it was treated as if it was a surprise to the staff and
perhaps only my problem. In fact, some staff confessed to me that this is a
known issue that is being addressed by an external company and they have no idea
when it will be resolved.
3. Talking with reception about the issue, I was yelled at (yes) saying that
there is nothing they can do about it and that's it.
4. I've called front desk 3 times in the past days. On all events, I was put on
hold for up to 5 minutes, after which no one apologized for the delay. When I
asked about the Internet issue, I was given a 1-800 number to call for tech
support although the Hotel knew this was known issue and that tech support
cannot help me personally. I've just wasted more time on this.

The hotel has really gone downhill the last 10 years. The hotel is definitely
showing its age. The rooms and hallways look very worn down and haven't been
updated in what seems like 20 years or more. |
