The Golden Nugget is the pride of downtown. This was my 1st stay at this
property, though I have visited it many times before. My companion couldn't
sleep due to constant noise from outside - we never could identify where it was
coming from, but it sounded like construction. The room REALLY needed new
carpeting, but other than that it was well appointed and the beds are wonderful.
Once you stay at this hotel, they often offer you room upgrades free on
subsequent visits. Their food is very good, but a bit pricy: for example,
breakfast entrees are $10-$17 without beverage. So with beverage, tax & tip, you
can easily spend $20-$25 for breakfast.
The ambience is exceptional. Their pool is iconic - there is a water slide that
shoots you through a large tank of sharks. The hotel rates are very good for
parties of 1 or 2. They hit you heavily for a 3rd & 4th person.
I will definitely return to this property on my very next stay. I much prefer
downtown with easy access to my car and reasonable walking distances to other
hotels, unlike the strip properties where if you forget something in your car,
it may be a half-mile walk to your car and back to your room.
With an upgraded room on my next trip, I absolutely expect to upgrade my rating
here from "Very Good" to "Excellent."

Stayed in the Rush Tower for one night on 9/30/11. Always have stayed on strip;
first time downtown and what a lovely surprise!! The room was fabulous. Very
nicely appointed, with an "L"-shapped sofa next to the windows. Loved the flat
screen TV and the fact that there were double sinks in the bathroom. The view
wasn't over great (overlooked canopy on Freemont Street), but who cares about
the view when the room was so nice. The entire hotel was MUCH bigger than I ever
thought it was from previous walks down Freemont street. Although we didn't use
the pool, it looked great and wasn't all that crowded (although the bar area
around the pool was!) Would DEFINITELY stay here again....maybe for a longer
stay next time!

Well ... we are on the road ...traveling around a day here two days there that
sort of thing. So the old Nugget might be outside this box, a little. After
being sucked into, and spite back out of, the black hole of checking in. For the
amount of people that were checking in, you'd think there would have been more
than one person at the check in desk. Guess not. The 'desk' was no help, to us,
figuring out how to get our gear from the parking lot to our room - what a hike
that was.
True to their word, there is secure parking, set a side, for motorcycles. Score
one for that. Good price for the room (during the week). Things were looking up.
Until ... The additional $13 for an - unsecured - WiFi hook up. Which, of
course, requires a (24) $50 hold on the credit card - Grrr. The other half
booked the room, so I was not allowed to set up the WiFi, because there was no
'share' listed on the room. Even though it was booked for 2 people.
We ended up in the Carson tower. So hiking back and forth to the main desk is a
PITA. It's a bit of a hike. No refrigerator in the room. No coffee. The room
safe is cool and all but wasn't big enough to hold anything I wanted to lock up.
We decide to try out the tube/slide, through the shark tank. Get ready, hike
over and up to the beginning of the slide, just in time to find out, the slide
and the main pool had just closed - at 8 o'clock at night. 8 o'clock .. in
Vegas? Ok ... fine. We go over the the Hide Out, a bar with a wading pool in it,
to see if they can make a martini. The martini was good (not great). But ... $9
for martini - in a plastic cup? I under stand no glass near a pool, but don't
charge top dollar for a drink in a beer swilling cup!
So, off we go to find something to eat. The restaurant was top notch. The food
was excellent and the staff was right there. Only thing was it was so damn noisy
I couldn't hear anything they said. I've eaten in cafeterias that were less
noisy than that. By now, all we're interested in is sleep. To that end the bed
was very comfortable and the 20th floor is very quiet. The hotel staff treated
us really great - no complaints with them.
Once we got the hang of the place. I became apparent the NG caters more to
people that come there as a destination, not just passing through. As a
here-today-gone-tomorrow traveler ... the GN just don't get it done. From what
we saw of Vegas ... it don't get it done either. We're going to leave it to
those that can afford the, constant, gouging.

We arrived to stay at the golden nugget on Thursday afternoon for the weekend
and it was great. Check in was quick and every employee we encountered was
helpful and courteous. We had to call maintenance twice for two issues which
were not the hotels fault and both times they were fast and professional. We had
a king room in the rush tower and it was beautiful. The bed was very comfortable
and the bathroom was amazing. The only observation I made that I didnt expect
was the water was very hard I know we are in a desert but I first class hotel
would have a softener I would think. This was not a bad thing just strange.
Overall great trip and I look forward to returning soon!

The rooms are great, the slots are fine, and the buffet is great !
On Weekends and holidays the buffet includes Crab legs, Oyster Rockefeller and
other seafood, it is well worth the price. LOVE IT !
The rooms are always clean and perfect.
We stay here every time ! |
