My husband and I stayed here in March. Check-in was quite fast and the lady the
reception was quite helpful and nice.
Our room was big and clean. Although the furnishings weren't brand new, the
important thing is that it was clean! For 45 dollars a night it was great value.
Located off the strip, there is a shuttle every half hour (or hour I forget) to
casinos on the strip. This was our main transportation to and from. Found it was
quite convenient as many hotels are much more expensive and you have to pay a
resort fee every day, whereas the Rio you don;t.
Overall a good stay especially if you are on a budget!

We checked in friday evening for a next day conference, we were promised to have
our rooms on the same floor or close to each other when we reserved but they
didnt' have it available at that time (we got the 7th & 10th floor instead). The
lovely lady checking us in was very apologetic and she upgraded our standard
rooms to a larger suite with a one bedroom and 1 and 1/2 bath suite with
separate living and dining area with great floor to ceiling view for the same
price as our original reservation. TV and radio was outdated but we didn't
really have time to utilize it. The bed was very comfortable. Housekeeping we
met up on the hallway was very friendly and gave us more shampoo when we asked
them to. One complaint I have was I can still smell cigarette smoke from time to
time through the a/c vents even though we were in a non-smoking floor. They have
a shuttle service that drops off hotel guests to 3 locations in the strip
(Bally's, Paris, and Harrahs) and they come every half hour on the hour. Very
convenient if you don't want to drive down the busy strip or if you do not have
a car. Lastly, the slot machines are very tight. Play something else or
somewhere else--away from the strip preferably.

This hotel was okay for a business trip if all you have to do is meetings. Our
trip was strictly fun and for that we got a little bored. We did have one night
of fun going over to the Palms and checking out all of the clubs. The Rio had
most of us in the same area for our group, with the exception of myself. I was
at the entire other end from everyone else. No bigy - at least you could find
everyone's room with ease. The pool area was not as great as I had thought it
would be from reviews and the pictures. Very small pools and I believe that only
1 was heated.. my guess was the one we couldn't even get close to or fit one
more body into it was so packed. We stayed by the first pool with the waterfall
and when we went in it was gross. Not sure if the waterfall creates so much
debris or what but is had so much stuff floating around we got out. We then just
decided to pay to go into the private area pool. This was much better. Although
I didn't see anyone bringing drinks/food for about 2 hours. We just took turns
running out to get stuff for everyone. Music was good, pool was comfortable and
gogo dancers were a nice addition. Went to dinner at for the seafood buffet...
don't waist your money. Go to the actual seafood restaurant at the other end by
the pool and get a good meal. The buffet was really not that good. We all agreed
(12 of us). We did have dinner up top at the Vodoo and it was one of the very
best meals I have ever had. Had the Bone in Ribeye. Amazing service and food! We
were not clear on where to enter the place, but figured it out. All in all a
very fun trip. Went to see The Beatles show - better than amazing!!! Ended up at
Nine Fine Irishmen and as we do every trip - had a blast.

Stuck in line for the buffet...already paid, but there are no seats, really?!?!
It's been almost an hour and others are cutting in line because they're paying
cash. I guess rio doesn't reward loyal patrons, only those who don't have
vouchers. What a ripoff.

I've stayed at a variety of Las Vegas hotels (read: Imperial Palace to ARIA) and
this place was one of the worst places. Seriously. Check in at 4PM = waiting in
line for 40 minutes. Given that it was 4th of July weekend, I was expecting some
delays. But, there were only a handful of people ahead of us. Turns out they had
some sort of computer malfunction (which they told us 20 minutes in). And yet,
they had about 11 employees standing around, having lively conversations with
each other and definitely avoiding eye contact with the ever growing line of
hotel guests.
TAKE NOTE HOTEL MGMT: if you have some sort of computer malfunction and/or
delay, then 1) communicate this to your customer quickly and 2) for the love of
PETE, don't have your employees just standing around in front of each station.
If necessary, have them go into the back. Your customers may be more
understanding if they think you're understaffed.
Other negatives:
1) paper thin walls. I'm talking RICE PAPER thin, son! We could hear every
conversation, every cough, every moan (GROSS) and every annoying door slam.
2) black and white TUBE TV. Seriously? Come on. Amazon sells a 22" Philips LED
LCD TV for under $200. Free shipping. Get on it.
3) Janky 1 star hotel style shower head. Terrible.
I always thought - I'm just going to Vegas to party it up. It doesn't matter
where you stay. OH, YES IT DOES. Never again. |
