I had very, very high expectations for this hotel, and not only did it meet
them, it surpassed them in almost every way.
Firstly, the hotel itself, located in the middle of the strip, is gorgeous. You
enter the hotel via a beautiful downstairs entry lobby and are whisked up to
reception on the 23rd floor, which is a haven of peace and calm from the chaos
that is Las Vegas. There were no check in lines when we were there, ever, and we
were very quickly shown to our fabulous, spacious premier room.
Travelling as a family with 2 children we found that the premier room was easily
large enough for the four of us, and the views from our 21st floor room were
sensational. The room itself was also decorated to an extremely high level, and
I loved the touchpad operated curtains/ air conditioning etc.
I am very, very picky when it comes to hotel cleanliness, and this hotel is
amazingly clean. Everything looks perfect and new, as if you are the first guest
ever to stay there. Also the bed linen is of the highest quality and the beds
are incredibly comfortable.
One small problem that we did encounter was that there was excessive noise from
an open air karaoke bar on the strip that kept us awake a good part of the first
night. Had we been travelling as a couple and in Vegas to party, coming home
late, this wouldn't have been an issue, but as a family with children who needed
to sleep this was more of a problem.
It was only a problem until the moment that we mentioned it to the hotel staff
however, who quickly found us a new dramatically quieter room (and an upgraded
one too.) They really couldn't have been more helpful or lovely about it.
Apparently they are also taking legal action against the bar so this issue
should soon be resolved anyway.

The pool area is beautifully kept, and the cabanas look fabulous although we
didn't have time to book one during our stay. Unfortunately it was very windy
when we stayed so we didn't have the chance to use the pool as much as we might
have liked. Nonetheless it is quiet and serene and beautiful, unlike most of the
other Vegas pools I have ever experienced. The staff there, as with everywhere
in this amazing hotel were wonderful and helpful.
Whilst we were there we had something of a medical emergency when my husband was
accidentally headbutted by my seven year old when he bent to kiss her goodnight
in the dark, as we were putting her to bed. This wasn't a minor blow, in fact
the bathroom of our hotel room looked like a murder scene after this incident,
such was the amount of blood. The response of the hotel was phenomenal though.
Within literally a couple of minutes of my panicked call they sent a medically
trained security guard who helped my very dazed husband try to stop the bleeding
so that I could look after my daughter who was distraught by the idea that she
had hurt her father as well as suffering from a bang on the head herself. The
manager himself also came to our room and seeing the amount of blood immediately
called an ambulance for us, although by the time the paramedics arrived the
bleeding had lessened and we didn't end up needing it. Throughout this incident
everybody from the hotel was so kind, helpful and reassuring to us, I really
cannot thank them enough. Not only that but within about 15 minutes of the
paramedics leaving, a cleaner with a biohazard kit arrived at our room and made
it look perfect again, (no mean feat given how much my husband had been
bleeding) something that really helped me to settle my upset children down for
the night.
I think the position of this hotel on the strip is perfect, next to Aria, and
right in the middle of the strip, a quick walk to the Bellagio etc. It was such
a wonderful experience to be able to walk out of the door of the hotel and be in
the middle of everything, and then come back in and be able to forget completely
about all of the craziness outside the hotel.
We visited lots of the other hotels such as the Wynn etc and the quality of the
Mandarin Oriental is on a different scale to those places.
I really cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Not only is it
breathtakingly beautiful, the service is out of this world. Usually there are
one or two service niggles even when staying at great hotels, and there simply
weren't here. Everything was absolutely perfect.

We spent a long weekend at the Mandarin and truly enjoyed it. Staying at the
Mandarin in Vegas is a different experience, since the hotel does not have a
casino. Instead of standing in a long check-in line and traipsing through a
casino with our luggage in search of the elevator, we had the new pleasure of
riding straight up to the 23rd-floor reservation desk, where all the wonderful
service began. We had booked our trip through SW Vacations and had chosen a
“premium” room. Five days before departure, SW informed us they were downgrading
us to a lesser room with little compensation. We were very angry with them. When
we arrived at the desk at the Mandarin, I respectfully asked for the room we had
paid for. This was apparently their second such request that day. After a call
to a higher authority, the lovely desk clerk told us we got the last premium
room. That made our day and our trip. The bait and switch trick that SW
Vacations tried to pull was averted. From then on, everyone we dealt with at the
Mandarin was equally as helpful and sincerely concerned about our welfare – from
the spa to the bistro to the bar. Our room was exquisite, the best we have ever
had. Our Hammam treatment at the spa was a delight. We also enjoyed the hotel’s
pool area. There was only one hiccup with the Mandarin. It was difficult to get
a cab from there. Saturday night we stood in a long line, while the bellmen did
all they could, but cabs simply do not pull into the Mandarin very regularly,
and their flashing blue curb-side light was obviously being ignored by the
cabbies. They seemed at a loss on how to get a cab other than by accidental
drop-off. Admittedly, the strip was extremely busy, but their impotence on this
front was surprising. On the other hand, it was very convenient to stroll over
to the adjacent Crystals Mall and on to the casino at the Aria or the
Cosmopolitan – two very nice casinos – and to take advantage of the many
restaurants and shop in those two complexes. Again, wherever we went in the
hotel, people were there to cheerfully make us happy. It has a wonderful
atmosphere. Take advantage of their three nights for two offer.

I stayed here for three nights for the Electric Daisy Carnival and, while the
hotel is definitely not a party hotel, had a great time. The rooms were spacious
and clean with a great strip view and modern amenities such as the Control4 room
control system. The service was great-- they catered to every request. The pools
were not that big but were nice and clean and not full. The only downside was
having to go up and then down to the room, and walking a loooong way to the free
Aria parking. |
