Rio Hotel and Casino Las Vegas Reviews

Just stayed at the Rio with my wife. we stayed in the Ipanema tower. The first
room we were given had some serious cleanliness issues so we went back to the
counter. To the Rio's credit they reacted very fast and upgraded us to the VIP
floor. Both the front desk manager and the housekeeping manager were great and
very apologetic. They remedied the problem immediately without question. Within
one hour we were completely transferred to another room. My wife and I travel a
lot so we expect some problems on every trip and try not to get all upset over
it. After all it is your holiday. The new room on the VIP floor is pretty much
the same as the other rooms. It has a nicer TV. A pay mini bar as well as a
small fridge. The small fridges at the Rio only keep things cool NOT cold. But
it is nice enough to have a bottle of milk or some oranges. My beer I keep in an
ice bucket. The furniture is about the same. The bath room is maybe a little
nicer. The rooms at the Rio are very large with plenty of storage. The beds are
not bad. Not as good as the Wynn etc. but decent. The air conditioner is noisy
but that's normal for Vegas unless you stay at the Wynn etc.
The pool area is pretty good but sometimes the music is way too loud and jungle
thumping crap.
The buffet is no way as good as it used to be when Tony Marnell owned the Rio.
If you want a good buffet drive out to Tony's new hotel the M Resort south of
the airport. It is the best in Las Vegas bar none!!
Location of the Rio is good provided you have a rental car. Don't expect to be
able to go for walks outside the hotel. They have a shuttle if you want to waste
valuable holiday time waiting.
Overall I recommend the Rio. It is good value if you get a deal and get a rental
car. Rental cars in Vegas are about $20 a day including everything. I would
avoid Thrifty car rental in Las Vegas as they have an incredibly bad attitude,
are slow and way too aggressive pushing their up sell nonsense.

At check-in, we were charged full balance and a 200 security deposit (that's not
even for amenities), the deposit was "in case we broke the TV or something".
That really got us off on the wrong foot. It almost made us want to do damage to
the tube TV that was probably worth less than $50 (but of course we didn't). As
we walked toward our room, we noticed that all the hallway shades had been
punched in! So, that's why. Our room was very nice, with a great view of the
pools (down side: you can hear the pool music through the windows). Swimming
under the waterfalls was a highlight! They offer drinks (charged, of course) and
there are some great hot tubs as well! For us, the slots weren't paying out
much. We are back home now, still waiting for our reimbursement of the security
deposit, to our credit card. Advise: pay the 200 in cash, you get it back right
away at check out.Rio Hotel and Casino Las Vegas Reviews

My husband and I just returned from a quick trip to Vegas and we stayed at the
Rio. It was ok. I generally give good reviews to places, but our experience at
this hotel really wasn't great. Maybe this hotel is better for a younger crowd
(we're in our late 30's)?? Positives: nice, clean room; taxi to the strip is
easy to get and inexpensive; seafood buffet is wonderful, lots of restaurants to
choose from, three different pools and one has a sandy beach area. Negatives:
shower head in our room was broken, fire alarm went off in the middle of the
night and we all had to evacuate because someone on our non-smoking floor was
smoking, $22 charge for use of the gym, the hotel smells like smoke since it is
a smoking hotel, the pool has two blaring speaker systems that boom music from
both sides of the pool area. This means that there are two different types of
dance music going LOUDLY at all times. There is no place to go to escape the
noise (near the waterfall is the best bet if you go since it drowns some of it
out). It just wasn't what we were hoping for.

My wife and I have stayed at the Rio at least three times a year since 2004 and
would not think of staying anywhere else. The people who run it and the people
who work at the front desk are the best in Las Vegas...
Looking forward to our next visit...

Given that they host the biggest event in poker EVERY YEAR I went there under
the false pretence that they would have a reasonably sized poker room and good
tournament turnout. I played in several tournaments there this last week, only
to show up when the tournament started and find out we didnt have enough players
for more than ONE (1) table. Plus their poker room is the smallest of any I've
played at in Vegas. All in all if you cant afford a "large" buy-in like they
have at the Bellagio you may want to stay/play at the MGM (they have a daily $60
buy-in, which I played in the last time I went to Vegas... and they always had a
good turnout, 80-120 people.)
All that being said, if you want a cheap, but good room this place is still a
nice choice. they have shuttles to the strip every 30 minutes (from 10am-1am
daily), they are within walking distance to the Palms (which has excellent video
poker/slots/comps), and you always have the option of catching a $8 cab to just
about anywhere on the strip you would want to go. |
