We just got back from our stay Wed-Sun, Feb 15-19. We were in room 25175 which
is in Tower 1, 25th floor. We had a King Spa Suite with a Widescreen TV. The
location of the tower is ideal. We walked right off the elevator and our the
door onto the strip (just a 3 min walk to the bus stop)... or through the casino
out the other door onto the strip towards NY NY. The elevators were fast, no
waiting. The check in was easy, no crowd (although we saw crowds as the weekend
got closer)... typical Vegas. The room was dated, kind of remodelled, but very
clean. It has a dark brown carpet that looked in good shape, dark furnishings
which looked a bit wore. There was new tile in the bathroom and apparently they
must have removed the tub and just put in a large shower base. The counter in
the bathroom was old, with a crack and older faucet. Again, everything was very
clean though! The bed mattress was a pillow top and new, very comfortable, with
comfy pillows! This was the main reason we chose this place.... we kept hearing
the beds were soft. I checked over the mattress when we got there. Very clean!
The room was exceptionally quiet, we never heard people around us. The hot tub
in the room actually sits off to the side of the small table. There was a
widescreen tv in the room.
We got a great rate on this room, otherwise I might have been more inclined to
stay mid strip or downtown. However, I've always wanted to try them out. I like
new places. We've done it, but will chose another place next time.
If you get a great rate or special pricing, take chance if you don't need
upscale! Just don't expect new in Tower 1. I have heard Tower 2 is renovated
more than the area we were in.

Great hotel, massive room and very clean. Excellent value for money. The staff
were very friendly. Stayed for 5 nights and really enjoyed ourselves. Would
recommend this hotel. first time in Vegas and didn't know what to expect for my
money and was very very surprised, rooms huge and couldn't fault anything about
it!

Upon arrival to the hotel we had to wait in line for check in or an extended
period of time. For a Saturday afternoon, not very many front desk agents were
available. The front desk agent that checked us in scribbled on a piece of paper
asking for our telephone number and email. She then proceeded to ask us for our
phone number 3 more times during check in. It took at least 30 minutes to check
in (we already had a reservation, weren't walking in off the Strip). The resort
fee that is charged by the property covers many amenities that should be
included in the rate. I find it unacceptable that you should have to go get your
own paper when it is included in this rate. Two pools were closed and the
remaining two left available were incredibly dirty (layer of brown at the bottom
of the pool). Excalibur does not have wireless internet, yet wired internet is
included in the resort fee. This does no good to people with cell phones and
tablets. We were told the entire hotel would have to be re-wired in order to
provide wireless....the whole point is WIRELESS. When we arrived to our room, we
found the front panel on the air conditioner was missing and exposing wood
framing, the toilet paper holder was hanging to the wall by one loose screw (you
couldn't hang a roll on it), the dresser that the TV sits on was extensively
chipped and the TV kept blowing a fuse. The ice machine was broken on our floor
and when we called down to ask for ice to be brought up we were told "No, you
need to go one floor up or one floor down and use those ice machines". Our room
safe needed to be reset and we were told we had to stay in the room and it would
take 40 minutes to have someone up to do this. Unacceptable! It should not take
that long to have a call resolved at any property. Management should be aware
that this is time we could be using to spend money in their casino. We were told
at check in that this was an upgraded room. Upon visiting the front desk and
informing the front desk of the issues with our current accommodation we were
"upgraded" to a higher floor. Many of the issues with the first room were not
present in this second room, but the bathroom still had chipped floor tiles and
shoddy patch work on the grout in the shower. We also did not appreciate being
hounded by the "Guest Services" employees every time we walked through the
lobby/casino trying to sell services and shows. My parents had stayed here a few
years ago and raved about the rooms and service. I was left utterly disappointed
by the whole experience. We will not be returning to this property for our
planned trip in the fall.

Hallway & casino carpets were ragged & torn; nice bathroom; poor service at
registration--always a line; resort fees (in most Las Vegas hotels, not just
this one) are ridiculous, a rip-off since most travelers don't use them. One of
the "amenities" covered by the fee is a daily newspaper--but you have to go to
the registration area & seek it out, it's not delivered.

I paid for a deluxe room and was assured that i was upgraded upon checking in
'to a wide screen room' - The only good thing about our room was the fantastic
view of the strip :0) Bad sides were - No double glazing so you could hear all
the traffic 'all through the night' you could even here people laughing and
shouting in the street below 'and we were on the 7th floor (Spent 5 nights with
ear plugs in) The blinds in the windows did not fill the whole window! and the
net curtains to the side of the window do not close 'they are for decoration
only' so if you like a dark room 'you have no chance! We stayed in Jan 2012 so
temperature drops of an evening and all you get are 2 flimsy covers on your bed
'but requested more from house keeping and they bought us one more flimsy cover
each! beds were hard,,, all in all absolutely crap 5 nights kip! very
disappointing :( resort tax of $14 a day is rubbish considering you get nothing
for it! 'when booking from the UK it said this included long distance calls
'this is not true' only calls within the USA,,, their was no tea and coffee
making facilities in the room! no fridge to store water or beer!

When I'm staying in a hotel, the number 1 thing I care about is cleanliness.
After reading reviews about the standard (NON widescreen) rooms in Tower 1, I
was a little worried. We had booked two such rooms, and I was pleased to find
that both were really clean, and remained that way over our week-long stay. The
rooms are not as bad as you'd imagine, while not 'remodeled' as the widescreen
rooms are, they have clearly been updated not terribly long ago with new
showers, and flat screen TV's. The carpet was also very clean in both rooms.
They give plenty of towels (4 full sized towels, 3 hand towels, and 3 rags),
which is more than other MGM hotels I've stayed at in the past. The check-in
line was long, but moved quick, and the on-TV checkout was not working, but the
woman who answered my phone call was super friendly and helped me out very
quickly.

Stayed at Excalibur during the Consumer Electronics Show because of the price.
The hotel was the first stop on the shuttle bus route, and the check in/out was
efficient.
My room was a "wide screen room" which, I assume, is an upgrade over their
standard rooms with old tube TVs.
Although large, the room was very plain; nothing fancy....shower instead of a
tub, had an in room safe and iron/ironing board.
The room was very clean, had good pillows and the bed was comfortable. When I
think about it... what more do you want in this town?
Excalibur is at the end of the strip which can be inconvenient. However, there
is a tram stop behind the MGM that can get you up and down cheaply. $12 gets you
a 24 hr ticket. |
