I had never stayed in Downtown La Vegas before, and had no expectations for
anything but a clean place to crawl into after a night of fun. My friend and I
were disappointed to find our room was a smoking room, but all others were sold
out. Actually, that, and the lack of a "courtesy" coffee maker were my only
complaints. Spacious room, clean, with plenty of towels. I can see myself
returning in the future.

The property is extremely clean, spacious and sparkling. Hotel employees are
gracious, patient and helpful, especially Jeff the Doorman. Internet service is
$13 a day, coffee in your room costs $10 for 4 cups, a one liter bottle of FIGI
water is left in your room with a $7 price tag on it. If you want coffee to be
left in your room on a daily basis, you have to request it after the first
night. The buffet is excellent in food and service. Get around the internet fee
by bringing your laptop down to the lobby Starbucks.

We were in Vegas for the week to attend a convention on the strip for the first
3 days. After our 3 days at the MGM Grand we headed downtown to finish our
vacation at The Golden Nugget downtown.
The Nugget has always been the crown jewel of downtown and the recent
renovations and new Rush Tower are the icing on the cake.
I sent my wife ahead on Thursday in a cab while I finished my convention chores.
The staff was helpful in getting her and our considerable baggage into the hotel
and room. The fridge we ordered was delivered before the bags made it to the
room. The check in staff was friendly and efficient.
We chose the new Rush Tower and were overwhelmed. Lots of earth tones and an
asian flare. The room was plenty large, well appointed and very clean.
The Nugget has not gone with the resort fees so we had to pay for the wifi,
which was actually a savings over the resort fees at other hotels in Vegas.
The room has a Keurig coffee maker, but the cups are 4 for $12. Save some money
and go across the street to the Dunkin Donuts, if you have to drink in the room,
buy the k-cups at the DD.
Typical high priced mini bar items, but there was a well stocked gift shop right
off the elevator with everything you could imagine including bottled booze.
We like downtown, it has a different vibe than the strip and everything is so
close. There was a Walgreens right around the corner for those things we forgot
and three other casinos on the same intersection we were on. Plenty of other
casinos line Fremont Street, plus there are bands every night playing for free
as part of the Fremont Street Experience.
For low budget gamblers like us, your money goes a lot further downtown. The
slots pay better and you can always find a $5 blackjack table and often a $3
table.

We take an annual January guys trip to Vegas and have stayed at The Golden
Nugget for each of the last three years. We love being downtown and the
accommodations are great since the renovation. Absolutely love Vic and Anthony's
is phenomenal - one of the best steakhouses you'll ever go to. And, if you
prefer seafood, the Chart House is located there as well. Always a fun place to
stay!

Two older ladies, spending money like we didn't need it and they made it fun,
fun, fun. The hotel is really nice now that it has been updated. Everyone from
children to business patrons to little old ladies can find plenty to do. The
slots were hot. The pool area beautiful. The food really good. The room spacious
and the hotel personnel very friendly and helpful. Freemont Street is
fascinating. Going back this May.

Even as downtown continues to deteriorate...In fact, it might be a little bit
better than last time I was here. The confusing thing is they have so many
towers & room choices/rates. Often, however, they will upgrade you if you just
ask: I guess they want to make you happy... Happy customer, you'll gamble more.
The (relatively) new pool area is beautiful. They seem to have scaled back their
sports book a bit, which is a shame. But otherwise the dealers here remain among
the most professional and competent group in Vegas and most of the patrons know
how to play what they're playing. They also are pretty liberal about comping
meals, etc....so that's another plus. Even if I'm not staying here, I always
make a trip here to play. Their 24-hour cafe is excellent...the buffet, not so
much

Maybe 20+ years ago Downtown "was" the place to be in Las Vegas & as with all
things time moves on as does Vegas. I was in the city for CES (Consumer
Electronics Show 2012) the positive thing was that the hotel by all accounts did
not raise its prices as others were 5-6+ times their normal price, which helped
me in selecting the Nugget.
The price per night i'd say was respectable and I paid a few dollars to be
upgraded into the 'Rush' tower. The room on the 20th floor was very large, huge
bathroom with double sliding doors.. though a daft thing generally in the room
was the places the light switches were placed. For example... the hallway switch
was fine, but moving through to the desk or bed area there was not visible light
switch... so you fumble around trying to find something like a desk lamp. The
bathroom switch...well you had to physically walk into the bathroom and across
it to reach the switch. so for those needing to nip to the bathroom during the
night.. either hold on till light.. or take a torch! |
