Let me start out first by saying that I have never, ever given a hotel a
negative review until now. I have stayed at quite a few hotels in my travels and
I am definitely not a nit picky kind of person and unfortunately I haven't had
much time to post reviews in recent years on hotels like I used to, but I had to
do it for this one. First and foremost Vdara is not a 5 star hotel. We recently
stayed at the Cosmopolitan in November of last year and the hospitality, rooms,
restaurants, everything was top notch. We were attracted to the Vdara because
they have no casino and no smoking and all rooms were suites, right up our
alley. Well upon check in, which was smooth and quick, I asked the front desk
clerk if I could see an upgraded room before deciding if $30 more dollars a
night was worth upgrading to their Vdara suite. Well she seemed kind of put out
and told us that we had 10 mins. to view the room. I let that comment pass, but
it didn't sit well with me. The Vdara suite was definitely not worth $30 more
dollars a night and with her attitude, we decided not to give this hotel more
money.

The first impression of this hotel via the front desk clerk was not good. She
was not rude at all, just very cool. No warmth none what so ever and we noticed
this with a couple of the other front deskers who were checking others in.
Barely cordial. The room was nice and comfortable, but what hotel that has a
kitchenette, not have basic kitchen utensils? Seeing we were staying here for 9
nights, we needed these things. We had to call for spoons and forks and other
kitchen items. They took forever delivering them. The iron didn't work right and
we called 4 times for a new one, and never received one. We made due with the
luke warm iron. What 5 star hotel does not have a DVD player for their guests?
Yes, we love to watch movies from time to time in our hotel room after a long
day of sight seeing, eating and slot playing. I think even the 3 star hotels
have DVD players. In order to watch a DVD, you had to rent a playstation for $50
a day!! Are you kidding me? You mean to tell me that the $20+tax resort fee
doesn't include this?

Part of a Southwest Airlines four day package. Chose the Vdara because it was
new, totally non-smoking, no casino and in the middle of everything. Got a free
upgrade to a Panorama Room - windows on three sides. Only negative - it was on
the fifth floor. Room was great - large kitchen, living room and bedroom.
Electric curtains and electric room blackout shades on all windows. Very quite
and housekeeping was excellent. Had a small cafeteria style restaurant in the
lobby. I picked up breakfast each morning and we ate in our room. Short walk to
the Bellagio on a private walkway from our lobby. Also same access to the
overhead tram that stops in the Aria, City Center and Monte Carlo. Two trams
running - wait always less than six minutes.

We have stayed at numerous Vegas Hotels. The location was prime. Very close to
the City Center. Ask for a room facing the Bellagio - the view was great. We had
friends in different rooms with different views and the Bellagio view was the
best. We were disappointed they did not supply a coffee maker in the suite, nor
hotel robes. Ask for robes when checking in. We asked for the coffee maker but
was told they did not supply them. Did not make sense since the room had a
kitchenette. There was also no hair conditioner, which was not a big deal for my
husband and I. I've traveled with my girlfriends and I know that would have been
issue for some. The bar was very nice and had an awesome atmosphere. We had food
at the market cafe and it took a long time for the food. The valet service was
very fast. Beds were comfortable. All in all it was pretty good. The Trump was
better though if you are looking for comfort. Although, The Trump is not ideally
located. The Aria (next door) seemed very nice and we will stay there next time.

I am giving this hotel a rating of 5 because it is beautiful, the staff were
great and our corner suite was excellent. There was free valet parking and as we
rented a car that was handy! Well worth the tip. We booked tickets for 3 shows
through the concierge, which was great because not only did the guy know people
at the other hotel box offices and got us very good seats, he also made sure we
had and used the free M-Life card to save money.
We had a kitchen and a washer/dryer in our suite and although there wasn't any
soap or kitchen supplies when we arrived, a call down to house-keeping and they
brought us everything we needed within minutes. ALL the staff were really
friendly and not in a fake way. :) They went out of their way to make
conversation and be polite.
The bed and pillows were CRAZY comfortable!!! They even have Vdara at Home and
you can order the same pillows/mattress and I am trying to talk my husband into
splurging! Seriously though, I have a pretty screwed up neck with disc
herniations and after a couple days there I noticed that my neck wasn't hurting
at all. Usually hotel beds are a nightmare for me but not here.
Now to the "but" in my title... We wouldn't stay there again because of the
location and lack of restaurants/entertainment. I'm not going to mark the hotel
down for that because it clearly states the location. It is minutes to walk to
the strip, but just not very direct. There is also just one cafe and no other
places to eat....again, the hotel description clearly states that so it doesn't
deserve to lose points as everything else is wonderful.
If you want to stay on the Strip in a less-Vegas style hotel, smoke-free,
casino-free and beautiful, you would love the Vdara. If you want more of the
whole-package hotel, then maybe look into the Aria, which is in the same family
of City Center hotels but has way more going on. |
